The California State Senate has passed legislation for inclusion in public schools in social studies class, gay history.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Mark Leno of San Francisco, was approved in a vote. The measure now goes to the Assembly, where Democrats also have a simple majority and approval process. It is left to districts local school decision on what to include in the lessons and to what degree will be taught, but will enter into force during 2013-2014.
Opponents of the measure say that this kind of teaching all that is going to serve to fatten the already crowded school curriculum if students and expose them to topics that some parents believe refutable. Senator Doug La Malfa Republican opposed the measure adds "I am deeply concerned about children who have to face from an early age and many of us more when we teach abstinence .... what is sexuality."
For advocates of the argument is different. "Gay people are citizens of second and the children have heard this and have seen how violently different partners for that reason. We have been sending the wrong message. "
Honestly, I see this as something fantastic. In this way the kids will be more aware of what has been (and continues to suffer) the LGBT community throughout the years and why some actions such as the celebration of Pride. Ole for California! As noted Schwarzenegger is no longer in government ... xD
